EDIT: ARGH!! lol! wrong version -need to add in the dirt flying up on the roof.. was wondering why the thumbnail looked funny... damn it i need to organise my names better.. guncity2f 2g 2h and all that crap :faint:

here you can find the FIRST version.. :)

More colours added, tried to tear away from the overly warm tones, revisited almost everything. made centerpieces less dark, im happy with the values.

hope you guys like it better?

Photoshop 6... no ref.. arg.

Final piece that i feel like posting that is for [link] games :)

Its going to be a small pic for the game manual, this is the first runthrough.. be tightening up as time goes by! (though its not required, and a sketchy look was requested)

I dont find it very interesting, its really what the brief says, to have a mech blasting away at some base with dumbfire rockets and guns. er. ;p

no vechiles... but i made 2, that did different things, in order to separate the commotion and maybe help you understand the chaos better. That poor guy on the 1st level roof tiles is really having a bad day. really

Is this supposed to be based off of Heavy Gear?
ukitakumuki Featured By Owner Nov 4, 2011  Professional Digital Artist
not at all. But I really fucking hope Activision gets their shit together and does something with the franchise!!!!!
Thanatosstorm Featured By Owner Jul 3, 2013
They didn't. Which is why Stompy Bot and MekTek stepped up. Unfortunately, since things went under earlier with the Kickstarter, they're going to be looking for other backers for their new Heavy Gear Assault game.

I did recognize the inspiration for the autocannon in this one, though.

it is the best, isn't it :) I think it was the light one actually that stayed with me for a long time. So good. And the DeployablePackGun as well!
Thanatosstorm Featured By Owner Jul 25, 2013
You haven't seen the little work-ups they did in the Heavy Gear Assault concept art for the LAC, have you? :) Great work there, looks like an upgraded AK-47 on 20mikemike steroids. Really great stuff.

But yeah, the DPG is a classic. Unfortunately for the board game, it's kinda of... well, puny. When you can create your own little list, most folks want to go with a bruiser like the Medium Bazooka. No surprise there. But then, being an ex-tanker, I've always held a little soft spot for the Aller and Visigoth, and the newest NuCoal designs, the Fusilier and the Voltiguer. :)

Goodness.. no I'm afraid all that is lost on me, my only real entrypoint into the franchise is the great western-manga look and the killer games. Do you know about :iconflaketom:?

Hey ukita, when you see this you should check out my profile. Heavy Gear Assault's Kickstarter may have failed, but their Alpha is now up. :)

It looks like a Locust (Gears Of War) into a Helgass (Killzone) armor.
LordMarchewka Featured By Owner Jan 14, 2008
Pure awesomeness. Design of the mechs reminds me Heavy Gear.

Great atmosphere! I can see the motion in this. The part, which is being blast to pieces look the best and most realistic. Keep it up.

Considering such a vague demand, you pulled of a fabulous piece. The two mecha look awesome, all their action and firing, very nice. The dusty explosion of the building is awesome; great attention to detail there. As with the trooper in the tower. The background itself is what makes the image for me. I'm a sucker for your bgs. In my opinion, they're always so elaborate and I just love their style. The lighting is graet, beautiful sky. The fade off into the distance is great. Lastly, do you mouse all your works or tablet?
ukitakumuki Featured By Owner Apr 1, 2004  Professional Digital Artist
i mouse lines and 'special' details that are easier -not drawn-. like stright lines. ;p hahaha

i guess in truth, i use whatever is closer to my hand atm. really.

but of course, stylus/tablet owns :)

thank you!

I don't want to leave a "HOLY SHIT WOW!" comment, but after looking for something to criticize,

HOLY SHIT. WOW. Fantastic composition, especially the environment. I love that dark shape in the background and the tree in the foreground. The motion and detail is stupendous. Great work.
ukitakumuki Featured By Owner Mar 22, 2004  Professional Digital Artist
thanks brah!

been awhile... :) how are things!
ephigy Featured By Owner Mar 22, 2004
Things are OK. I haven't been able to draw much lately; you know when you reach a certain level and then all of a sudden revert to clumsiness again? It's like all my skill went away, and it takes a lot of effort to force myself to do the clumsy shit in order to get back to being good.

Right now I'm waiting in fevered anticipation for HL2. I've heard April 4th. COULD IT BE TRUE?
ukitakumuki Featured By Owner Mar 23, 2004  Professional Digital Artist
you're not totally wrong.. i got some insider info, but its more like July.

The way the light smoothens the shapes gives an awesome feeling to this one... as always i love how you depict a single second of a movement without breaking the movement itself :) Great !

How do you do such lovely city backgrounds?... even thought there is a violent war going on in the pics I am always struck by your city scapes and neighborhoods.
ukitakumuki Featured By Owner Mar 21, 2004  Professional Digital Artist
haha, im grateful u like em!

i love photos and backgrounds from film and animation.. not too serious though!

i sorta try to implement a journalistic/cinematic feel to the work
ParallelPenguins Featured By Owner Mar 22, 2004   Digital Artist
Well, you pull it off well. I found my self staring at a pic of yours for atleast three songs on my winamp list... There is such a reality to your pics.

A very nice and successful light contrast, however I have been wondering what that oval shape is in the top right corner...
