A failed exercise in reflective surface illustration, feeling around alot, with some basic physics theories to guide ;_;

The subject is a expanded concept from one of the projects im working on atm :) Shape memory metals galore!

no ref?
is from the evangelion movie [link]
ukitakumuki Featured By Owner Jun 13, 2009  Professional Digital Artist
lol, no attempt was made to deceive anyone. Anyone who knows Evangelion can see very clearly that the mass production eva was a huge influence on this design, but it is far from a 'blatant copy'.

If ref was used, I must make out to be a piss poor delineator then. hahaha.

Even your failed experiments inspire me to greater things.

Such an intriguing design... Still very cool nonetheless. Kudos to your design prowess:thumbsup:

Mmmmm...shape memory metals! If you've ever read the "Legends of Dune" series, they talk about robots using "flowmetal" quite a bit. This aircraft is a very interesting shape.

The city looks fine, it being far away and all, but the canyon below could use some finer detail. The angel itself turned out great! But I can't seem to see its right arm.

This is brilliant! A wonderful piece of art. I love how you give a paintly feel to this piece. At first I thought you did this on coreal painter hich would explain this beautiful painted style but I as so surprised to see that it was done on photoshop. How do you also get such strong constrast of light and dark is it the colour dodge tool? It so effective however you have done it!

The concept design of this piece is brilliant! This is an amazing piece I love it so much. Im going to fav this!
ukitakumuki Featured By Owner Aug 10, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
mostly overlay and dodge tool to get lighting effects.. but easily done [if i were to do it today] with the levels, and perhaps even better, spreading out the values more evenly.

Thanks my man, you have some gorgeous portrait work! Absolutely have no damn patience for that stuff. respect.

if you ever or if you have already, play the game Ace Combat 5, the unsung war. there's a fictional orbital manuvering spacecraft called the Arcbird, your work really reminds me of it.

The front part reminds me of the harpy evas in EoE. XD

This is a "failed exercise in reflective surface?" Ok... can't wait to see what you call a success.....!

for reflections on odd shapes like this study the reflections made from chrome things.. a great sourse is old 1950's cadillac bumpers and such.. just a thought anyways

To be straight out honest, I didn't feel like saying anything at the start, simply because this has had so many comments, congratulations, etc etc, that I didn't think I would matter in this huge grey mass of "thank you for giving us your great art" kind of people. But you are, by far, one the best artists i've seen here. I come to this site for inspiration and that's exactly what you supplied.

This image and "A Story of Us", another great submission by yourself have given me more dreams and ideas than I can count, so I feel it would be unfair for me not to thank you (heh, touché), even though as far as I know, this is none of your original intention. It gives me the idea of a technological replacement for our own Gods, and by default, Angels. Coming down the scale is us, Mankind. It gives me the dream of a World of death (maybe it's the Pyramid Song) where everything that is "living" are Machines, cold, heartless, but nontheless eternally happy machines, ruled by their own. The shining plate of a Lithium Angel passes by, performing a heavenly roar. Nothing changes, everything is eternal.

Some aspects of it are of course, removed in my dreams (hehe), mostly the offensive weaponry and the little "legs" you gave it.

You and possibly JenZee are possibly the two most talented artists out here, giving us some actual imaginative settings instead of "anime drawing with girl surrounded by fire", which in my honest opinion, take none to zero talent. Memorization of a set of guidelines to great "pretty" pictures are easy. The hard part, from my point of view, is imagining something that is not only "pretty", but disturbing in some part, but most of all, original.

I apologize if I sound confusing, but meh. I feel confused. All I wanted is, keep doing your art. Please. It's a shame about you being in the military, I hope you come back soon.

lol, thank you Rafael :) Im honoured you would think so deeply about a work. I think most if not all of us in this culture follows this 'idea propagation/dream mutation' (if i could put it as such! ) with regards to how we grow!

Pass it on :D cheers

i'm getting a little by just a detail... how in the hell did you catch my name :o I've actually searched my acccount and i can't find where did you saw my name. I'm just being paranoid now, heeh.

Excellent work
Have you ever done a "comic" or the like? It seems to me you could easily get published. Independantly or in a mag like Heavy Metal

Wow, what an interesting ship design!

Its very unconventional...but I love this sort of streamlined angelic looking technology.
FEDasDUCK Featured By Owner Nov 13, 2005
The reflections look good, although I'd imagine that the underside of the wings would take on a more beige hue to match the ground.
What kind of morphic ability would it have if it's using memory metals?
ukitakumuki Featured By Owner Nov 19, 2005  Professional Digital Artist
Thanks for the crit :D

Not high-level morphing.. just the basic idea of a memory metal expanding and contracting to allow movement in a less limiting fashion; and perhaps some fancy ones like opening up a seemingly 'organic-mecha bomb bay'.
FEDasDUCK Featured By Owner Nov 20, 2005
'organic-mecha bomb bay'
Nice :) Just imagine seeing this hole widening in the undercarriage seconds before your death....
I'd imagine that it would release bombs through contractions - like having a baby.

im in the army now :( conscript.

read my journal for updates on my mental condition :D
bear65 Featured By Owner Oct 31, 2005 that it's for two years.

I experienced my own little piece of hell this summer when I went commercial fishing in Alaska for 5 weeks. When I say fishing, I mean pulling in a 900 foot net by hand...with one other person and picking each and every Sockeye Salmon out of the net (we caught 175,000 lbs.)And the skin peeled off my hands too. I got to sleep a couple hours at a time about twice a day. And we had about 4 days of nice weather.

So I feel you're pain, though 2 years is another story. I'm sure that once you get the Basic Training stuff over with life will get much better. Definitely an experience that will make you appreciate your life and someting you can always look back on. Good luck to you!
ukitakumuki Featured By Owner Nov 1, 2005  Professional Digital Artist
depending on who you ask.. some will tell you it will only get worse.. :fear:

thanks for the well wishes :D Commercial fishing! i read an article on that in Nat Geo few years back.. mano stuff! lol

:) heres to both of us!
bear65 Featured By Owner Nov 1, 2005
haha....i think you'll be better for all of any case, life will be amazing after.

the anatomy reminds me of metal gear ray..... but without the shininess to it. quite breathtaking.
