... now, from one 'tekhead' to another, how much do you 'b.s. engineer' your stuff?!? the designs look funcional as HELL... I HATE YOU!!! hahaha... really inspirational stuff Man... are you using Painter or Photoshop?
Design wise..mechanical design wise... I just love the stuff. I think its just a matter of experience and filling up your visual library. I personally don't have a great visual memory, so I often indulge in the factoids behind how stuff works in order to commit them to memory better. I just LOVE to find out about how stuff works. Really. What I find great about that is how easy it is eventually, to link some fundamental concepts from an actual real life design to a fictional design, and as a result come up with new stuff. Is that enough BS for you?
But seriously, I don't think any concept artist short of having a BFA in Mechanical Engineering can or should say 'I truly engineered it'. Unless you ran it through an industrial level physics simulation and it works. lol. As you [already clearly know from your fucking sick gallery] its just about finding the right inspiration to go with the theme you have in mind. I like being tasteless (I guess cause I have such bad taste to begin with) and it lets me get adventurous and experience more design for my own learning.
Oh and I use Photoshop exclusively. The last time I used painter I wanted to cut myself. Maybe one day I'll give it a shot again.
